Waste batteries contain highly toxic and flammable materials such as mercury, nickel, cadmium, lithium, and more. Given the potential for these harmful materials to contaminate the soil or water and pose significant harm to the environment and human health, it is recommended to dispose of them at designated public collection points immediately after use, where they can undergo proper collection and treatment.
Automotive batteries contain heavy metals such as lead, cadmium, acid, and mercury, which are hazardous to human health and the environment. Therefore, it is not safe for individuals or businesses to store and keep them on their own.
On the other hand, up to 98% of the components of automotive batteries can be recycled, which is why they should be handed over to an authorized recycler.

Due to the properties of the substances they contain, single-use and automotive batteries are classified as hazardous waste.

Ekocentar 97 offers services for the collection and management of single-use and automotive batteries for both businesses and individuals. For quantities exceeding 500 kg of single-use and automotive batteries, Ekocentar 97 organises transportation and collection from their location.
For legal entities that are members of a collective operator, the costs for the collection, transport, and treatment of waste batteries are covered by the collective operator itself. Meanwhile, non-members are responsible for covering the costs of these services directly to Ekocentar 97.
Individuals can dispose of used batteries for free at collection points set up by collective operators. Since used batteries have no economic value, Ekocentar 97 primarily stores them and then sends them for complete destruction in specialised facilities in EU countries.
