One of the largest and most significant projects from the company’s extensive portfolio is the removal of industrial hazardous waste from the former Organic-Chemical Industry – Skopje (OHIS), which had been abandoned for over 20 years. This complex project involved identifying, transferring, repackaging and transporting approximately 200 tons of hazardous waste. Moreover, Ekocentar 97 also handled the administrative procedures, including obtaining export documents and notifications for transboundary movement of waste for transit countries and destination country.
The project included the removal and final treatment of five types of organic peroxides, acrylonitrile monomer, methanol, methyl acrylate, vinyl chloride monomer, acrylic acid, isobutanol, decanol phosphate and others.
This project had a profound socio-ecological impact on the country since one of its most severely contaminated sites, which threatened human health and the environment, was successfully eliminated.
